3. 10:02just that's what we just did yes okay all right so now I would like to make a motion to open the floor for nominations for Board of Education Vice President we need to discussion comments then vote so are there any comments or discussion I have a comment to make this board has a serious business before it our elementary school is targeted for improvement if the state aid formula is adjusted next year we stand to lose $3 million in next year's budget according to our former student representative we have high schoolers who don't feel safe in the bathrooms Dr pennyman wasn't comfortable being a liaison with the endowment fund and the go she didn't want school time used for
4. 11:02festival preparation or a district email address used by the festival and as superintendent of our district every one of those decisions are in her purview and I support them if I had been on the board last month I would have suggested addressing the matter related to The Book Festival through a letter outlining the districts requirements for maintaining a relationship while affirming it place is a Valu has of the district I also would recommend that the district update its internal forms related to The Book Festival update the district website to remove the district address as an address for the festival which is on the district website now and I would suggest that the board adopt a resolution of support for the
5. 11:58work that the festival does was to promote children's literacy and that they have a home in our buildings so long as they are a force of positivity to our students these steps I feel would have resulted in a graceful separation and provided Clarity and purpose to each organization and an affirmation for the mission of the festival they are the festival we are the school we can come together and promote children's ly every year during the month of June the Board of Education met for 1 hour and 16 minutes of public content nearly 40 minutes on more than half of the board's public agenda during the month was dedicated to a meeting on the Book Festival this board is not an
6. 12:46investigative body if there's a concern of wrongdoing we delegate to the various Auditors and attorneys were employed by the district and we review the reports that they give us I'm dismayed to think how the board's time might have better been spent in the month of June at the June 11th meeting public content was only 4 minutes long perhaps our student council might have made their presentation on the school climate report which is an ambitious Civic project would have fostered engagement analysis and public speaking in our school leaders perhaps Dr pressy you might have given a year- end update on the state of equity in the District perhaps Miss beain could have presented on the state aid formula to
7. 13:34give more clarity as to how it might be affected by the government's proposed changes and I want to be clear I hold the Board of Education as a whole accountable for the distraction that was bed last month and it distracted us from our core purpose as any strong leader will tell you the buck stops here I would ask Miss Jones to refuse her nomination to demonstrate to our community that this board has a sense of accountability absent that I asked the board to vote no on the resolution to demonstrate the same I believe that Mr dep's experience as vice president and Miss Walker's experience leading policy committee this board's most important function make them both fit for
8. 14:19leadership of this body this Board needs to be engaged in the business of a board of education which is primarily to set policy for this District under recent leadership the board has become distracted it's time for us to get serious and get focused and get back to the mission of educating this community's children um yeah thank you Matt I really appreciate your comments um I agree with many of them I'm very excited to have you and amand on the board I think we all bring different skills and I know together we can be a strong board um on top of that I appreciate different perspectives I appreciate appreciate descent I think it's necessary for us to

reading it I know that he went over it with with them but I just want to make sure they have a good understanding of themselves okay so we'll hold that one we're not going to adopt that one tonight I
