  1. 0:55Okay, we're going to start the services meeting for today, June 4th, 2026. Uh we have Lola here, Jenny's here, myself, we have a quorum, uh Gary has a outside business appointment, and we have Linda taking our notes. And uh for senior uh services, I did uh get a email from Rean and um there's still no commissioner yet, but they're uh programming their offsite is um down a waterfront. They're doing aerobics down a waterfront, which I think it's two days a week, which is saying it's very popular. and they're doing uh Zoom uh yoga. Um and they're doing uh at the end of the month they're going to start uh movement uh classes. Uh and the
  2. 2:00county program is, you know, there still and they're doing a lot of games, board games, and they're enjoying games, I guess. So, uh, as of problems or issues, she said there's no problems or issues uh at this time. Uh, >> and where do the board games take place? >> At senior center. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. Right. At uh they have a they have a little they have like a play uh their main room. >> Okay. >> It's a big open room. the um survey. The survey what I'm looking is you guys can email me three dates for June to do um Providence and I'm thinking July 16th we can probably get a lot of uh interest if we attend or plan to attend for a couple hours and tenant landlord for bliss at >> what time? I'm sorry. >> That's 1 to 4, I believe it is. >> And I I'll send everybody the confirmation, but it's 1 to 4. It's at
  3. 3:02Bliss. It's rain or shine. Um, no, it's July 16th. >> July 16th. >> Even again, we just do an hour. >> I was going to be toward the end, >> right? Yeah. Because I mean, they're doing refreshments. I think they're doing music and uh it's it's usually a good showing. Um and uh I I think that's a great way to capture um people out and about and uh then we don't have to actually go into >> real life. >> Yeah. Right. >> So um any any thoughts and questions about uh seniors? >> I think it'd be a great idea if we just had the whole list of what's going on for the next couple of months so that when >> Yeah. when we're talking to them es especially the question that's >> uh not related to the programming number five. >> Mhm.
  4. 4:03>> Um if they may not be aware of what's happening and if we just told them what was happening then maybe they could give more suggestions. >> Right. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I mean the I think and I don't know if they're volunteers that do it >> but I think they pay for like the classes. >> Okay. >> A couple bucks. Uh so u I don't know if it's the volunteer and then for or the instructor gets paid. Um, I would like to know how the yoga works online cuz that seems, you know, kind of kind of um, you know, what happens if someone my question would be and I again she said it to me today. I didn't get a chance to get a phone call back. Um, is it is it yoga like do they offer it like there so people can come there online and see it at the senior center or do they have to log in theirel? I'm thinking that could be a barrier too, right? >> Yeah, it might be. >> So, it would be interesting to see uh if
  5. 5:06if they have the capabilities to do uh like you know Zoom at the senior center. So, that's going to be one of my questions followup for Raven. >> Okay. Clarify some things if that's okay. Thursday the exercise and they do not have a zoom that's external the zoom for the yoga that's all external. >> Okay I I'll follow up with thank you um the um next would be uh youth Mr. Good evening, council. Um the youth report for June. Um so this is just kind of a an overview of some of the things that are going on at the department. Uh we had staff complete a uh mandatory uh training. This is
  6. 6:10expected of all city employees in regards to the uh sexual harassment and discrimination training. Um, another big item for us this month was participating in the community cleanup that took place on uh May 21st and um some uh some more updates about camp and um other features that we have going on at Oakdale. Um so this is just to give you an overview. Um all city employees are expected to complete this training. Um there's a quiz associated with it and you have to have a a score of 80 or higher just to um express one's competence of the material. All staff is now um up to up to par with that. And ultimately once that's done uh each staff uh member receives a certificate and that becomes a part of their uh work file. Um, this is a a photo from the community cleanup. Uh, there we have Isabelle and
  7. 7:14uh Kayla in the background. Uh, Kayla is one of our staff. This took place um May 21st and uh the kids uh they look forward to it cuz they just feel like an extension of the community helping out for a good cause and they you know we're um they're outside and so we're not in the building. were kind of in our community uh doing the good deed. Um and I think afterwards they got they had a pizza um afterwards. So it's a fun day for the view. Um this is a u program overview. These are um a list of all the programs that we've had uh for this month. Um with an addition of a few new ones. Um we did have a field trip to the Skyler Mansion on May 23rd. Uh that was for the Pinkster uh celebration. Um which that was a a learning lesson for me. Um did not know what the Pinkster uh festival was about. Um this was in a collaboration with Operation Unite. And
  8. 8:18so the Pinkster Festival is uh in Albany and it's one of New York's oldest African-American celebrations um historically originating from a colonial Dutch holiday. um it evolved into a a festival of freedom and cultural preservation for uh the enslaved and for free uh free um African um descents. And so um I'm always learning with the kids. And so that was just like a a um historical lesson um as well. Uh some of the other uh programs that we've continued is been um art with Joan. Um here you have a a photo of some of our kids uh with the clay um unit. Uh and then in the next slide you have um just a bit of a a gallery um of the of the youth work there that they've been working on with drilling. So this was a component around um uh charcoal crayons and the idea was to uh kind of create a
  9. 9:26create a flower. Um and so they were kind of doing some shading and and and such with this project. Um we we always appreciate bringing the arts to the youth provided some of the budget cuts at the district and such. Uh we just feel that, you know, these make a a well-rounded um student. And so just a final um final look there. I thought the little guy on the piano was pretty neat to play play model there. Uh some camp uh camp updates. Um so as of yesterday, we had 145 kids register. Um this time last year uh we had about 10 10 less. So we're give or take on on on par for um a similar turnout. Um so right now anyone that applies for a camp will be placed on the wait list. And how we operate the wait list is in the first uh week or two of camp we'll call home
  10. 10:29to say hey Calvin hasn't been here. Does he intend to show up to camp? If no, then we'll pull Dominic off the weight list and add him to the active roster. Um, and so >> also they don't know right now if they have to go to summer school, too. So, they sign up just in case and they probably end up going to summer school. I know that was always drugs we lose when you go to summer school. >> And I think the mentions that I've heard about summer school is that it's not happening >> this year. Um, but again, that's a mention. I haven't haven't really confirmed that yet. That could be why your numbers might go up there, >> right? Yeah. Yeah. >> What is your cap? >> So, each pod we cap at 60 60 kids um per pod. >> Um keeping in mind, we don't have like a mandatory attendance policy. So, you may get a kid for camp is six weeks long, so you may get a kid for only two weeks because they're going on a vacation or something for those remaining four. Um, and so, you know, we factor that in as
  11. 11:31well. Um, and our I I'll give credit is do our secretary does a great job of of um checking in with those families to make those assessments so that we can keep the active roster as current as possible. >> Do you break it down in sessions just in case something does go away for a week, you could pull somebody for a week off the waiting list? Do you break it down in sessions? Like we used to have like, you know, you know, one, you know, two week sessions, you know, free two week sessions. So, uh, and then they would sign up for those sessions. They might sign up for all, right? But somebody might say, "I'm going to be away this week." So, that allows someone off the waiting list to come for that. >> Yeah. I think, um, I think that is a model we can consider. You know, I think it to your mention, it offers that flexibility for families to to engage, um, you know, more more appropriately. Uh so we had um so we we've um finalized our um roster for camp counselors. So seven uh part-time staff roll over into camp and then we bring on eight um
  12. 12:33additional um uh summer uh hires. Um so that's only that that's it's not a it's not a ton of uh positions. That's only a few positions. we had over 50 applicants. Um, and so, uh, we we tend to get a strong turnout, um, at camp. Um, and so what we do knowing that we can't hire them all as much as we would like to, uh, we just, um, essentially forward them to the workforce over at the um, at the college with Rebecca Prusser. And a lot of the times it just really looks like supporting the youth, submitting their applications. They may need a laptop. they may need to get things scanned and faxed over. So we try to support in that capacity. >> So do they come do they when you say the ones you hire >> is that excluding any placement from workforce? >> Right. So that Yeah. So workforce Yeah. So we we'll have um you we'll have our 15 and then workforce will give us uh
  13. 13:39four uh kids directly from that pipeline. Okay. For the folks that did not make our hiring pool, we referred them over to work for it so that hopefully they could land, you know, somewhere. Yeah. Uh to get summer employment. >> That's a lot of kids. >> Yeah. Looking for work. >> Um we're also getting back to swimming lessons. Um we have uh swimming lessons for campers, swimming lessons for the public and we are bringing back uh baby and me as well for uh for the little ones to swim with their their uh parents. Um and you know we do have a fee um associated with each. Um for campers the fee is $25 and for the public there is a fee for city residents of $30 and for non-residents it's $75. >> Is that with the subsidized from the county for the swim program? doesn't count.
  14. 14:40>> The county the county um isn't subsidizing the swim program, but uh Friends of Hudson Youth is uh offering some support. >> I thought they always gave like 10 grand or something for the swim. >> So they the contributions from the county has relatively been for transportation. >> Um but we do have that that uh model of the different sessions as you mentioned for the swim lesson. Um so you know I just mentioned that to say it wouldn't be too much to incorporate that yeah >> into the uh camp. >> Um June 27th we are um it will be the return of the fishing derby. Um so at Oakdale it's a Saturday uh June 27th 9 to2 we'll be featuring the fishing derby. Uh this is sponsored by um uh the Warthower Memorial Fund and uh we're really excited about this because uh just from time to time check out the community board and uh you know I know there's a lot of interest about bringing
  15. 15:44back the fish and derby and so um it's available for ages 5 to 14. We have a ton of prizes, bikes, gift cards, tablets. Um so it's a it's a free event. Um, so we're hopeful that everyone comes and shows out and and has a good time, t-shirts, um, food, drinks, and so, um, we're really excited about this cuz we're we're we're hopeful to continue this for years to come. Is it going to be a golden fish? Because my daughter never caught the golden fish. So, like three years in a row, I guess it was a golden fish they put in there. I don't know if they tagged her or whatever. whoever wanted to huge prize. It >> gets away all the time. >> Got a huge prize, but it always got always got away. >> I know. Have a couple of hundred. So, hopefully there's a golden one in there. >> But yeah, we we typically um uh there's typically like an award for like the the largest fish or or the heaviest fish or the longest fish. >> That's cute. And you and you you're getting in uh
  16. 16:49they're coming in to dump them, right? >> Yes. Yep. Um yes. And they will you say trout? >> Yeah, they they they will be trout as well. >> Do they catch and release? I mean catch um Yeah, >> that's catch and release >> or they keep the veget cook them for dinner. >> Yeah. Oh, that's a great question. That's That's a great question. >> Yeah. Before I may speak, I'm I'm looking into that. >> I mean, they're welcome to, you know, I think they welcome to keep it. >> Okay. >> Now, are you going I know one of the issues before when they used to put the fish in, right? It there if there's a time frame, people went fishing. >> Yeah. >> So, is there going to be no fishing point, you know, at least before the fishing derby? So, >> yeah. So, yeah, we're going to try to uh limit um fishing. Um >> I don't know if you can do that. >> So, the goal is to put the fish into the lake as close to the date as possible,
  17. 17:56>> right? >> To avoid folks from >> uh fishing out >> the catch. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. that then that's a yeah that's that's a tricky thing to >> I mean in the past what they did they just closed off for fishing for that you know that you know no fishing or whatever so uh they put signs out so um you know just because and you also want some settling too when the fishes get you know put in there you want some settling in so yeah >> and hopefully it doesn't rain because that ruins it too. Yeah, think. Yeah, fingers crossed. We're hopeful and uh be good weather like today. So, yeah, that'll be great. >> I had a question. Yes. Um, there's a community walk, bike bus on the 12th of June from 7 to 8 a.m. I thought that would be a great opportunity to do a little bit of maybe you could get the police involved or maybe you I don't know the safety
  18. 19:01committee might want to be involved >> and um you know just go over rules about biking scooters >> absolutely >> helmets >> you know encouraged use of helmets and since Bergkshire Bikes is going going to be there um helping out. Uh maybe they'd want to donate some helmets or even offer discounts for helmets. >> Yeah. Um we are going to uh participate with that that um event as well. >> Um and so yeah, I could uh I believe that was >> through was that through a community member? Um, I just saw it on a on Facebook or or on Instagram somewhere. Um, free bike rentals from Berkshire Bike and Board. First come, first serve. And it doesn't say there's no organization
  19. 20:04listed. Oh, okay. Wait a second. It's the HCSD Hudson, New York. >> Oh, it's from >> Oh, it's from the school district. >> Yeah. Okay. Um I don't know that I have that one specifically. Um if you could share that to me, I would be coordinating to see how we could support that. >> Okay. >> Cuz yeah, I think Yeah, certainly. >> I'll forward it to you right now. >> Is it June 12th? You said >> June 12th. So it's next weekend. >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> Right. I'll forward it right now. >> I think has a question. two quick questions and I got to leave soon. Um the pond the algae situation how's that looking? >> Um so uh alicide a non-toxic algicide or whatever. >> Yeah, >> whatever. >> Yeah. Uh it's uh it was applied and um in addition to the algic side um manual removal that
  20. 21:06>> uh the garbage. >> How's the lake located? >> It's um it's it's looking I mean there are some some you know but for the yeah folks have already been at the lake folks have been swimming and so you know I think it's uh clear enough to where folks feel comfortable enough to answer. >> Cool. And the other question is real quick, I know the old assistant director thing was something that from last year's. Is there any bit any resolution or thoughts on that? >> Yeah, so we uh we landed a candidate um for uh it would be a temporary hire for camp. Um it's Marvel. She's a par professional um with the currently with um Hudson City School District. She's had a tour at some of the surrounding uh districts. She has a really solid connection with a lot of our kids and just the attitude of a teacher which I think is helpful in addition to being a parent bringing you know that maternal instinct and so yeah we uh were able to solidify camp and that fits in your budget.
  21. 22:09>> Oh yeah absolutely >> perfect. Well, I got I got rehearsal. >> Thank you for having >> Yeah, I'm sorry. I know I was part of your staff in front, you know, you don't have to be upset. >> No. Yeah. No. Yeah, we uh we Yeah, we certainly uh landed, I think, a great candidate. Uh honestly, she, you know, she comes in now just to kind of by her own means, but I think it's really just to to gain that traction with the kids, letting them know that she's here. she's a person that that they can rely on. >> Um, and you know, very passionate, you know, I don't I'm believing. So, it's great to have her, you know, on her team. >> I was always an asset when you when you get someone from the school district to, you know, come over to programming. >> Absolutely. >> Absolutely. >> And, you know, to to the mention that I said about um summer school kind of being in limbo, um, >> why is the >> budget fund. Yeah. Yeah. Funding. Um,
  22. 23:13you know, I think it's great to have her on our on our team to just kind of offer some uh some supplemental um schooling, if you will. Um, kind of a preview. Come September, we're looking to um connect with another teacher from the district to offering uh tutoring specific to to the department as well. something to stay tuned for. >> We have more. >> Uh that concludes the department report. >> Great. Um how did last >> the next one? >> I know that >> went 105 to 95. I went 101 to 95. >> Oh, it it was it was good. Um we had uh a lot of our members were there. Um you know members of the public not as much which is okay. >> Yeah absolutely. >> Um but yeah uh the the the youth uh they
  23. 24:17they enjoyed themselves. >> What time did it I mean the game play right. >> So we only honestly we only we we played we uh the watch party ended at like 9:30. We watched the first half. >> Okay. >> Yeah. We watched the first half. At that point I think folks were full of pizza. the next game Saturday. >> Right. Right. >> I got Nixon in the five, but we'll see. >> Well, it' be nice to have New York back somewhere. >> Absolutely. It came too close last year. >> Yeah. Um, so since, you know, we haven't visited and and I know there was some questionings on via email. So um just want to you know clarify in you know in terms of our fingerprinting procedures right. So um you know this is something that was reestablished through uh I think 2019 I brought it back onto the table. Uh so um currently
  24. 25:20is everyone over 18 that's our employed fingerprints. >> Yes. Y >> through through this through through the CBC, right? >> Right. >> Yeah. >> So, who who's the contact? You're you're the contact person. >> Yes. >> So, how's that budgeted? Because it's like 90 bucks per for fingerprint. So, where's that where's that come out of the budget? So we we have a line um that's designated for we it's uh I think the like the label of it is like training and so uh we have some funds allocated to address um the the fee for for fingerprinting right that do not disturb. >> You guys hear that ring? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I gota I gotta do not disturb and it's ringing in my ears because it's talking to my glasses. >> Kn it is I I don't know how it's doing. They're saying that it's I'm getting I don't know if you guys are getting the income tax or something
  25. 26:22income tax recently >> getting three times a day. >> Geez. >> I'm like I don't have any issues. I don't know. >> I'm sorry. So >> um so the process is they they get hired and then fingerprinted or they get fingerprinted first, the clearance goes through then they get hired. >> Yeah, we uh we they go through clearance first and then um then they come on officially. >> Okay. Now if they come back, is this also including the summer staff? >> Uh not the summer staff. >> Not not the summer staff. Yeah, cuz uh the kids so none of our so the seven that carry over have already been fingerprinted and then the eight additional they're all high school students. >> Okay. All right. Okay. All right. So So no one's are the the seven part-time that you hired, they're not 18. >> The seven are because they they've already been vetted. >> Okay, gotcha. Okay, cool. >> The eight.
  26. 27:22>> Yeah, because it's continuous. It stays open. The BBC stays open. Cool. Okay. Yeah, the eight um additional they're all of of high schools, you know, underage. >> What are we going to do to CBC? Do you still do don't the health department require you to do CBC or because they're not because they're young, you don't have to do CBC? >> I want to say it's because of their age. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah, I think I remember too because I think because it was a form 18 and older and you had to go track where they where you live. >> Yeah, it's like the L the LDSS or something to that effect, >> right? >> Yeah, you have to list like where all the residents over the past like 10 years or so. >> Mhm. Is there a secondary notification or or you are you the only notification >> like a person like one person? Yeah. Like when somebody gets fingerprinted, you get the results. >> Yes. Yeah. Myself and the secretary. >> How quick do they come in? Because you they they don't roll anymore. They do
  27. 28:26the scanning. So usually quick. >> It's pretty Yeah. I would say I'll say in two about in two weeks time. >> Cool. All right. Like I said, I just it was you know we get got an email on it. I said do we mind to address it now? you know, um, >> in regards to like a general inquiry or was that specific to us? >> It was specific to your department. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And, uh, and you know, you know, since I know it was in place and I know, you know, Liz was doing it. I know you were second to Liz, you know, so you're already on the list, right? Um, and I know it's like 90 bucks per >> thing. And you still do it in Kasaki. Is that what it is? >> So, some folks have been kind of bounced around, but Kasaki is the the main uh location. >> Yeah. >> Some folks have like I I actually I think I actually had to go to Kingston um when I did mine, but for the most part, folks land over at Kasaki.
  28. 29:28>> Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. So, uh any other thoughts and things going on? Um, we're, you know, we're not not really, you know, we're uh we're moving and grooving, you know. >> How's how's repairs looking for any Oakdale issue? I know the fencing, all that stuff. How's that going? >> Um, that's going. We're looking to um get uh Roma fence. >> Okay. >> Um to to um help us out with the uh the the fencing around the the rink. >> The top, right? It's it's a defense fence goes around the top of the rink, right? Yeah, some some is at the bottom as well. Okay. >> Cuz um yeah, just kind of wear and tear and folks making, you know, new doorway and what have you. So, >> um addressing that uh we we got well I said I might have said this last uh meeting, but we got new sand. >> Yeah. >> Um yeah. Um there was a volunteer effort u about two weeks ago where folks landed and did a lot of weeding and just kind
  29. 30:31of landscaping um at Oakdale. Um, which was a was a it was a huge help. That's why it looks as decent as it does now. >> How's the numbers been? You know, swimming since you guys opened my >> a little it was a little like cold and rainy. Um, uh, cuz we opened on the >> Oh, yeah. I went I went up to camp. I was like, yeah. >> Yeah, it was it was cold and rainy. So, uh, not much, but with the weather being, you know, a lot nicer. Like I was there yesterday and there was roughly I'd have to say about 15 uh 15 people on the beach including kids and and uh children and so I think you know again as the weather uh >> gets uh more more consistent. Yeah. Um we'll have more >> what are the hours again? >> Uh typically um it's 11 to 7. Um Friday or Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. >> Okay. And then uh those hours will adjust uh once we get to to the camp uh uh time. Yeah. And so
  30. 31:33>> camp will run 9 to 3 and then after 3 the beach will be open to the public until 7. >> Now you don't you don't do the concession stand. >> So concessions it'll be specific to to camp. >> Okay. And we'll uh we'll offer um a uh medium level of uh of service where we we'll offer prepackaged um items. So that could be like an ice pop or maybe like a uncrustable which is one of my favorites or like a you know a bottled uh juice or or or soda. >> What what about you guys still doing the school program for the breakfast and lunch? >> Yep. Yeah. Yeah, we're still working with the district to provide breakfast and lunch and um our step that's a that's in um so the training for that is a part of the orientation week where u the staff learn how to document um the the um kind of track the meals that we're offering to the community. Um they
  31. 32:36still do the sharing bin >> like if you don't like Yeah. If you don't want it, you can kind of leave it at the Yeah. We call it like the um uh we call it Yeah. We have a designated table. Yeah. >> To where like if you didn't want your apple or you didn't want your milk, you can leave it there so everyone knows that you know anything at that table could grab. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Any questions? Any thoughts? >> Yeah. One is online. >> Okay. Who is it? >> Bill, you got three minutes. Two minutes, I'm sorry. >> Three is okay. Um, I do have a few a few comments first and then a question or two. Uh, can you hear me? >> Yes. >> Great. Hey, is Claire Cousin there? >> Not today. >> Okay. Um, I just have to say that as somebody who who, um, frequents the park, uh, Oko Park quite a bit, um, you're flirting with danger at the exit
  32. 33:39there. Anybody leaving the the park in a vehicle, uh, comes across nothing as they exit the park. No stop sign, no stop line, no warning that they're approaching a very steep hill uh, where bicyclists and cars are coming down. I think this is not wise of the city. You're setting yourself up setting yourself up for possibly a lawsuit and you really should be creating a safer exit at the park. A stop sign and a stop line and some sort of sign reminding people what they're coming to. Also, coming down the hill of Sixth Street, there is nothing telling drivers that they're approaching a public park. There's nothing to slow them down. There's nothing warning them that a car might be pulling out that at the bottom of the hill. And we all know how many cars are speeding down that hill. That's all I'll say about that. I wish though that something will be done done about this. It needs to be done. And >> Bill, I'm sorry. You're wrong about that. There's actually a blinking light for pedestrians.
  33. 34:42>> That's for pedestrians if if they use it if there are pedestrians. Yes. But in terms of cars pulling out on sixth, um there's nothing warning drivers that they are approaching a public park. That's all I want to say about that. Secondly, um I want to ask a question uh uh of you, Jennifer, if I could because I know what um the answer is from the director. What I'd like to ask you, Jennifer, if I could >> is the following. Do you think that it is appropriate for the port of John at the Oakdale Park to be directly at the entrance and exit of the park permanently placed there as conspicuous as possible when it could be elsewhere? >> I'm sure it's not attractive. >> Have you ever seen it? >> Issue and and I spoke to Calvin and there's reasons why it's there. So, okay. Uh >> and and it can't be anywhere else. It can't be along the garage. And I spoke to Calvin and and and this the selection is is is is there's reasons why it's there.
  34. 35:44>> Well, can he explain why it can't be along the garage with the other >> I'm tell I'm telling you there's we I I I hear your comment. I spoke to Calvin and I agree with the location and there's reasons why that >> what at what can you can you just can you just tell us the reasons? Why not tell us the reasons and let's see if they make any sense? Because it's senseless to have it there and it wouldn't be acceptable at any other park in the city. >> Do you know if I tell you the reason if I tell you the reason >> the water park is >> you're you're you're not going to agree with it anyway. Bill, >> JUST GO. I I DARE YOU, DOMINIC. PLEASE entertain me. >> What did he tell you? >> It's it's it's better for security, right? The location. And it's also a flat What >> security? >> Do you want the answer? >> Don't give me generalities. What? >> And and it's also flat. It's a handicap accessible portaotty.
