  1. 0:03Okay, this is a services meeting for July 2nd, 2026. We do not have a forum, so it's going to be informational uh only. Uh Jenny and myself is here with with Linda as our our secretary taking our fabulous notes. Uh the senior center, uh which again um from my understanding, we do not have a commissioner yet. So, the information I got from uh Reagan Teegarden uh is that same thing's going on as last month in terms of yoga online and aerobics down at the waterfront. Uh the county is still running the program. She said there's good numbers at the county program for the the lunch program. Uh and they county does uh board games and games. That's the just of that. The survey on July 17th uh is
  2. 1:07>> 16th. >> No, it's 17th. I got it yesterday, I think. Um Friday That's a Friday, right? Yeah. I believe it is. From from 12:00 to 4:00, uh there's a uh fans appreciation at West Towers. Uh we're going to have uh members of the committee uh with gift cards and some surveys. That's going to Is that a dog? >> Sorry. Sorry. >> That was a dog our barking. All right, so >> I'm sorry. I'll mute myself. That's my dog. >> It's okay. So, um to get information um on transportation and and what the hang up there. Jenny had a great idea when to see if we can tap into the county uh uh survey uh while we're there that she can fill in the information um ask about you know, what the survey at the county
  3. 2:09uh is looking for in terms of their information and maybe we can have uh you know, two uh informational uh points at one spot at particular spots. Um I think uh that is it for that point the senior. We're just waiting for Calvin to dis- uh show up. Um just a quick note, we do have a uh warming center at the central firehouse if any >> Not warming, cooling. >> [laughter] >> We don't need warming. >> The warming center steps stand outside, the cats right? Uh >> [snorts] >> cooling center at the firehouse from I believe it's 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Uh with some water in the refrigerators, so if anyone's in need, feel free to use that and uh please check on your neighbors. Any Any Any Any You got anything to add or Do you have her number? >> Oh, how would I get in touch? What is
  4. 3:12Reagan's last name? >> Hegarty. >> Hegarty. >> I think the phone number is 833 3200. >> Okay. >> I think she works 9:00 to 5:00 I think. >> Yeah. >> [clears throat] >> We all go out to the splash pad >> after after the Oh. >> We need air conditioning. >> I remember you every day is doing the sprinklers. >> Oh, sprinklers were fun. We would always make a water slide in the backyard. Yeah, that was fun. >> I get a chance to
  5. 4:28I came around the other way when you go to Oak Ave to see if anyone's out there. >> I would imagine there were only six people. >> In no order? >> Uh 1:12. >> Really? What is it? >> They >> [snorts] >> Those are six people. >> Those are six brave people. Yeah, I thought I'd show you. I mean constitution to be out even by water in this weather. >> Not for me. I would start to go in the heat straight immediately being out there. So, >> I had this fan that you put a hose to it. I know. And it's sprinkle that be a cool air. I don't know. That was the best. >> That's what they do in the water sprinklers. >> Yeah, that's the best. >> Um I'm going to call Reagan and I'm going to call Nina and I'm going to see if I can put
  6. 5:33together a calendar each month. >> Mhm. >> Just so that maybe we can have it posted to our city website. And if I can get a hold of whoever was the um the administrator for the Facebook page. Um >> You might be better off just but starting new. >> Okay, I can try and do that. >> Yeah. Cuz I think I think Mia was the only administrator on that. The information she put out it was a lot was um other other stuff not you know wasn't just seniors stuff. It was just uh um like advertising and different things. So >> So I was just handed uh the Columbia County uh Senior Scoop magazine but we have this is for January through March. >> From the front here? >> Right, but it's a January through March. So it's not really doing us any good. So
  7. 6:36I'll I'll talk to um >> It might be updated. >> I'll talk to Nina about that to getting these. >> Yeah, they that's a quarterly thing. >> Mhm. So >> Right, yeah. >> We don't have the current one. >> Right. >> Okay. Okay. How comes here? >> Wonderful. Okay, you ready Calvin? >> Yes, sir. >> Oh, thank you. So uh we're going to ask the uh to talk to you so >> All righty. So um I apologize don't have my typical presentation this evening uh but I do have some projected numbers to share with all of you to revenue uh camp specific. Um so again these are projections uh in the event that everyone uh shows up and all payments are processed. Um so as I mentioned in some of the earlier presentations something new that we're featuring this year was the before and after care. >> Mhm.
  8. 7:37>> And [clears throat] so uh with uh eight families currently we are projected to bring in $3,500 through that resource. Again, folks can drop off their camper as early as 8:00 for >> [clears throat] >> earlier supervision, and then they can stay an hour past camp from 3:00 to 4:00. And and >> [clears throat] >> so yeah, that's I think you know, certainly trending in the right direction. But is that for the summer? Yes, that would be for the all 6 weeks. Okay, camp uh families can choose when they would like to utilize the service. But yes, it'll be for the full duration of camp. Following. And with regards to camper fees or registration fees, we're projected to bring in roughly $5,175. And again, I think these numbers will be will become more concrete as we finalize payments.
  9. 8:40And um with regards to swimming lessons, we are projected to bring in roughly $800 for camper swimming lessons. And with public swimming lessons, roughly $150 there. And then our total head count for camp as of today was 165 campers. And so that includes ages 5 through 13. And we have currently about three households on the wait list. The way that we do the wait list is essentially if in the opening week of camp, we assess attendance. So if we've identified that camper Calvin hasn't been there all week, we call the household to say, "Hey, haven't a senior camper or they have plans on showing up. Hopefully they confirm that hey no, they
  10. 9:43got into a camp and then she had the school or something else is going on. So then we'll call, you know, Jennifer so we'll say to Jennifer you're at the top of our list, are you still interested in joining us at camp? We now have a slot for you. >> Great. So with swimming lessons, what is that during camp? Like 9:00 to 12:00, when is the kids and the adults swimming? >> Yes, so it's kids specific and the swim lessons and so we have a schedule that allows that during the the camp hours. >> What about the adults? >> Um we we we it's been kid specific. We haven't necessarily offered it to adults. I'm not saying that we >> Oh, I thought you said adults. I thought you said kids have adults swimming lessons. >> Oh no, no, my my apologies. We we offer camper swim lessons. Okay, public public swim lessons. >> Okay, what so what is public >> Uh public swim lessons is for someone for a kid that may not be registered for summer camp but they're interested in doing swimming.
  11. 10:45>> They can come in through that during that time period. So they're not necessarily a camper but they come in for swim lessons. >> Right. Right. Yep. >> How does that work for a buddy check? How do you do buddy check during swim lessons? >> Yes. Yep, so so the guards have a system to where they we have a kind of like a >> A board or something. >> Yeah, a board and each each pair if you will has a number and their number is on the board to indicate that those swimmers are in and then what the guards uh do a a check if you will. They can remain in the water. >> Yes. >> And so once your number is called, so say you and I are number lucky number seven. Guards shout out number seven, and we um, call back to the guards. >> Right. And then and then after the every every 15 minutes, right? >> Yes. >> And then after it's clear, it goes back in. >> Yep. Yep. Um, so your start date is
  12. 11:48>> Monday. >> Yep. Uh, day one is on Monday. Yeah. Uh, just uh, got to get through this little uh, heat wave here. And um, yeah, day one is Monday. Uh, really excited. Uh, we just today was our final day of orientation. Um, and uh, our counselors were really excited. And um, you know, again, with regards to these projected numbers of revenue, we are expecting these numbers to trend up as we finalize payments. Uh, uh, yeah, that as we finalize our payments. >> Okay. Any any activities highlighted for the summer? >> Um, so we we we sprinkled in some new um, at least one new um, program we do. Um, we had a volunteer from the community that wanted to come in and teach uh, theater, essentially. >> Oh, wow. >> And so, um, uh, we have a uh, programmer that's going to come in and do uh, theater and comedy with all uh,
  13. 12:52uh, all three uh, pods. Um, open uh, on Shakespeare. Uh, that's the name of the uh, uh, the uh, uh, non-profit. And um, really looking forward to that. Something new. Um, and in fact, some of our counselors are excited about it as well. Um, by their interest, some of them have uh, performed in some of the school plays and such. And so we're uh, really looking forward to that. Um, and you know, of course, we're doing field trips. Uh, zoo, food has always been a a big seller. Um, that's typically one of our, you know, our bigger field trips during the summer. But that that's typically almost always get a full house on the whole day. Open at Urban Air, which is a trampoline park in the capital region. That's a big one. Pump It Up Plus, that's another big one. And this year we're going to do our
  14. 13:55um, our own rendition of the Olympics. In years past, you know, we would we would get the junior Olympics, you know, you would have all of the parks throughout the county playing at the middle school. You know, you name it. The the bean bag toss, the the potato sack race, soccer. Yeah. So, we're going to take an attempt into our own rendition of that this summer. And that's another exciting thing. We're going to try to do it at camp. Provided the school is undergoing a lot of renovations and such. But yeah, that's something new that um probably is kind of nostalgic for the likes of myself and the Kira and some of the other staff that have been there. And see what we can make of that. And then perhaps in the upcoming years we can pull in Greenport and some of the nearby camps to to really get back to that junior Olympics.
  15. 15:00Um What's the other >> So, there's a bike thing coming up, right? Is that this week or what? >> Uh, bike rodeo. But July 9th. July 9th. Yeah, they're going to close off Glenwood and conduct road skills with some of our It's open to the public. On September 7th, it certainly open to the public 5:00 to 7:00 July 9th. Um there'll be food and then from 7:00 to 7:30 there'll be a group ride uh with the support of HPD as well. And yeah, it's that's certainly something new that well, it took place last year as well, but uh I think this is something that will continue to kind of grow. Yeah. Certainly. And we bought the >> Is there Is there a way to do some educational things around helmet use and get people to donate helmets?
  16. 16:02>> I think they're doing We are doing the helmets here. Helmets are happening the talks about safety happening. >> Okay. And can that expand to as you're talking about you're you're talking about bicycles, but could that expand when you're talking about >> Certainly. I think skateboarding Yes. >> Skateboards, e-bikes, um you know, scooters. Yeah. >> Absolutely. >> I I've watched two kids almost get hit right in front of my house going the wrong way down the street on a blind corner. One of them wiped out. Thank God he wasn't hit by a car. Yeah. >> Yeah, absolutely. And you know, skate skate skaters as well. Actually, I just saw a kid on the way here. He's literally in the middle of the road on a skateboard. But safety is the name of the game. Absolutely. And so I think that's what we're going to be around in the
  17. 17:03discussion and overview. Um We uh uh the bike shop will also be participating um in in the event. And yeah, it's I I believe Christina has the spearheaded this this event and she's done a good job of organizing it. Um I reached out to Shonda. I don't know if she's there yet, but the trailer should be there. With a speed uh in front of the old town hall. Uh before before camp starts, you know, so it's you know, this will you know, speed radar. >> Okay. >> So that you know, so they know to slow down. >> Right. >> Uh you know, every year you people can travel with the >> Yeah. >> I Yeah, that's what that that would certainly be helpful >> Yeah, so I'll pick up The one the portable one is is being used and being used for training and everything. So uh Shonda so she'll get the you know, the trailer down there for our camp. >> Okay.
  18. 18:04>> So that's the area you know, that area. >> Yeah, that would be that would be good cuz we get it whether it's you know, increasing in cars with the traffic so that would be helpful. >> Also the is the blinking light still out at the crosswalk there? You know? >> I don't know. I believe so. I believe it's so. >> Are you on the safety committee? >> Both sides or one side? >> One side. >> I'll have to see. >> I don't Are Are you on the safety committee? >> Yeah. >> Can you bring that up? But it's next week, right? >> Yeah, it it just might be something cuz it's it's I believe it's solar. So that could be just something with the positioning of the of the solar app. >> It travels the length of the road. >> Yeah. We also had um the return of the fishing derby. >> Oh, nice. >> Yeah, I I didn't go to that tournament. I missed it. I I heard it was pretty good, right? >> Yeah, it was it was it was a good time. Um you know, again, I was just really excited to to get that back. Um I've been going there. Um the last derby took place uh well before um COVID and
  19. 19:08[clears throat] so um with the the of the uh Bauer family um we were able to make it happen. Uh there was there was breakfast available, there was lunch available. Um and you know, one of one of the one of the grandparents said to me, he was just so happy to be there having that experience with his grandson. Uh you know, they didn't go to local uh derbies um throughout the county or in local churches. And the the the the pond where they were fishing, they were just whatever was there. >> Yeah, it wasn't stocked. >> Right, it wasn't stocked. Exactly. So, he was excited to know that we had stock uh over there and that he would actually grab he would he would get some you know, they would get a fish. They would get something to bite. And so, um it was it was a it was a great um great event. Uh some of the prize giveaways were bikes, uh tablets, uh Bluetooth speakers, um >> Those are good prizes. In my day, it was like t-shirts. So, the the
  20. 20:10>> Right. >> Yeah, so uh we're looking forward to to bringing this back um annually. And uh you know, I think for the first time in a while, I think it was a it was a good turnout. >> So, this was last Saturday? >> Yes. >> And so, Sunday was the bear at the library that ended up at Open. Maybe he wanted a fish? Yeah, I think I heard about that. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. But yeah, fortunately uh the bear left us alone. And so, we were able to wait 20 July >> Oh, I thought you were going to say after all of them. Swarms >> Yeah. >> I don't know what's going on, man. >> I don't know. >> I don't know. >> I've been in constantly contact with the DEC uh over the past week. Um and just as a precaution, you know, of the bear. >> Uh-huh. >> And hearing that it was released near Underhill, I was just kind of just questioning how it got over there. But Yeah. >> Yeah. >> No, but uh we have a good good folks over there at DEC, um, Jesse Burge, who's a, um, classmate of mine, who's been our point person up there. And, um,
  21. 21:14yeah, he's a, just, um, been a a great resource, always picking up on the call. Um, with regards to the bear, he was saying it wasn't necessarily, um, a huge concern. Just let them noise alone and presence of people and with with the terrain, um, uh, my understanding was it's a it's a younger bear. Yeah, yeah, so they're I guess they're a good bit more timid. >> It ended up in Greenport. >> Who called that? >> I called the police department. >> So after meeting it, it's making its rounds. >> Yeah, yeah. >> He came up through my backyard again. Then went back. >> Yeah. >> Out to the Conservancy center. That happens every couple of years. >> Exactly. And so, you know, all all part of being upstate New York. >> Uh, Jesse's, uh, Burge, that's the DEC Department of Touring, right? >> Yes, yeah, yeah. >> Are you are you you ready for the summer ground on Monday? You you are? >> Yeah, we're ready. Uh, got t-shirts, so those are, uh,
  22. 22:16work uniforms. And so, uh, you know, folks are they're they're excited, you know, they're chomping at the bit. Um, between now and then, it's just a matter of hydration. >> Mhm. >> And, you know, we're going to, uh, R&R and, um, yeah, looking forward to another great summer. >> All right. Good luck and look forward to hearing you know, August is some big stuff. >> Absolutely, absolutely. >> Look forward to 2020. Any questions, Jen? >> No. >> Okay. >> Sounds great. >> Well, thank you, Calvin. >> No problem. >> Have a good one. Be safe. >> You as well. Thank you. >> Well, I guess that's right up We don't have to adjourn it since it's not a >> No, it's just a quarterly. >> But do do your say your report to, um, There. >> There, yeah, please. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thanks. All righty. Thank you everyone for Very good. All right, bye everyone. Yeah, you got it.
